On 11 January the world marks the International Day of Equality at Work. It is a reminder that everyone deserves equal opportunities in employment — without discrimination and with individual needs taken into account.
For people with disabilities this requires an accessible environment, flexible working arrangements and an employer open to dialogue. Such approaches turn equality from a declaration into everyday practice.
To mark this day we want to share the story of our instructor Vira Kalytovska, who is an excellent example of inclusive approaches at work. Vira works as a treasury services specialist at Nestlé Business Services, a large international company, in Lviv.
«I saw on the Group for Active Rehabilitation’s social media that Nestlé Business Services supports the employment of people with disabilities and creates equal, comfortable working conditions for everyone. The vacancies interested me and I decided to apply. After a webinar about employment at Nestlé I sent my CV, went through the interviews — and I was hired,» Vira says.
Today Vira works remotely. The company provided all the equipment she needed and agreed on a convenient working format. When necessary she comes to the office, which is a fully accessible, safe and comfortable space, equipped with a shelter, generators and uninterrupted internet.
«Diversity, equity and inclusion are part of Nestlé’s corporate principles. Here people always meet you halfway, try to understand your particular needs and create comfortable working conditions. Colleagues are open to cooperation, and the company supports development and learning,» Vira shares.
It is worth noting that Nestlé cooperates with GAR, in particular through staff training on inclusion and a modern understanding of disability.
We thank Nestlé for its consistent support of a barrier-free environment, inclusion and equal opportunities in employment. Examples like this show that equality at work is a reality that can and should be built together.
