Remote consulting

Questions about living with a spinal cord injury do not arrive on schedule, and not only in hospital. The remote consultation line exists so you can get an answer without leaving home.

The people answering live with a spinal cord injury themselves, are trained under the GAR programme and work to the organisation's internal protocols. We consult both the person with the injury and their family.

Free of charge. You can also leave a voice message at +38 (093) 112-94-16

About program

Most questions about living with a spinal cord injury come up after discharge — when there is no doctor or rehabilitation team nearby and the answer is needed today. That is what the remote consultation line is for.

You describe your situation and get an answer from someone living with the same injury who has already been through it. A conversation by phone or messenger, from home, with no queues and no referrals.

We consult not only the person with the injury but also their family: they are often the ones who need to understand where to help and where to step back, so as not to slow down the return to independence.

Our consultants are instructors with their own experience of injury, trained under the GAR programme and bound by the organisation’s internal protocols. Some of them are qualified physical and occupational therapists. The advice rests on evidence-based medicine, current legislation and more than thirty years of the active rehabilitation movement.

We do not diagnose and do not prescribe treatment — that is the doctors’ work. If a question is beyond our competence, we say so plainly and point you to the right specialist.

Consultations are free of charge. Requests are handled in order, and we do our best to answer every one.

What people ask about
Pressure sores and positioning
What to do about the ones you already have, and how to lie and sit so that new ones do not appear.
Bladder and bowel
The most common cause of complications — and the hardest subject to raise with anyone for the first time.
Hygiene supplies
What is available, what the state provides and where to go to get it.
Wheelchair
How to choose and adjust one, how to master wheelchair skills, what to do about repairs.
Transfers and self-care
Transfers, dressing, washing, adapting your home to your needs.
Intimate life and reproductive health
The question almost everyone has and almost no one asks out loud. There is an answer.
Disability status and paperwork
Disability registration, rehabilitation plans, assistive devices, benefits — what you are entitled to and how to get it.
Education and work
Where to go if your old job no longer fits, and how to look for a new one.
Travel and rehabilitation
Car, train, where to go for rehabilitation and how to join an active rehabilitation camp.
The list is not exhaustive: ask about whatever worries you. If an answer is beyond our competence, we will say so plainly and point you to the right specialist.
How it works
  1. 01 You send a request Through the form at the bottom of this page or by voice message at +38 (093) 112-94-16. You can also fill in the form on behalf of someone close to you.
  2. 02 We take the request on Requests are handled in order. If your question is urgent, say so in the form and we will take it into account.
  3. 03 The consultation By phone or messenger, at a time that suits you. Complex questions take more than one conversation.
  4. 04 What comes next If more than a conversation is needed, we point you to our other programmes: an active rehabilitation camp, an instructor visit, a home accessibility audit.
Who advises you, and on what basis
  • The consultants live with a spinal cord injury themselves and have been through the same road.
  • All of them are trained under the GAR programme and work to the organisation's internal protocols.
  • Some of the consultants are qualified physical and occupational therapists.
  • The team trains regularly with international organisations and specialists working with spinal cord injury.
  • The advice rests on evidence-based medicine, current Ukrainian law and more than thirty years of the active rehabilitation movement.
  • The boundaries are clear: diagnosis and treatment stay with doctors, not with the line's consultants.
